The setting for today's homily is a rugged wilderness. Jesus is led by the Spirit into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the devil. While He is there, the devil throws all kinds of temptations at Him. Jesus answers each temptation by quoting Scripture! Just as Jesus overcame the temptations of the devil by standing on the Word of God, so can we overcome the temptations of Satan. We are encouraged to "put on the whole armor of God," so that we can stand against the wiles or tricks of the devil!
