This instance of Jesus praying occurs right after the feeding of the five thousand and just before the transfiguration of Jesus, when Jesus will converse on the mountaintop with Moses and Elijah about the events of His impending crucifixion. Because of His close relationship with His Father, Jesus can discern God’s will in every decision. Jesus is constantly looking for His Father’s direction to know what is required of Him. His crucifixion is His cross to bear, both physically and spiritually.
