37 - 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s Gospel reading from St. Luke describes the most important preparation of our lives. Jesus has a frank discussion with His disciples about the time when He will return to reward the faithful. This story is important, because it also applies to us today. Jesus tells the story about a wealthy land owner who puts his servants in charge of his estate while he travels to a wedding. The servants do not know when their master will return. These servants, however, stay vigilant and alert to their master’s return. When the master returns, the servants immediately open the door to greet him. They have been anticipating his arrival! The master is pleased with their vigilance and proceeds to wait on them and to minister to them. Jesus says, “Blessed are those servants!”
