John minces no words, as he opens his account of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, by declaring exactly Who Jesus Is! After prayer and contemplation, for this long period of time, John begins his writing with this profound statement: 

 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).  By confirming that Jesus was present in the beginning, John does not hesitate to declare once and for all that Jesus is God!

 The same words, “In the beginning,” are used in Genesis 1:1:  “‘In the beginning,’ God created the heavens and the earth.”  Jesus is so present and united with God, the Father, that He is the Word of God now come down from Heaven!  John goes on to say:  “He (Jesus) was ‘in the beginning’ with God (vs. 2).

 These verses are the cornerstone of Christian teaching on the Trinity.  We believe in One God in Three Persons, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.  The Three abide together, so united and in agreement, that they are One and the Same.

 John states that “All things came to be through Him; without Him, nothing came to be” (vs. 3)!  So, it was God, the Father and Jesus, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Who created all things!
