B6 - Mary, the Holy Mother of God (Reading Format)
In a dream, an angel appeared to Joseph, saying: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary, your wife, into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit, that this Child has been conceived in her. She will bear a Son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:20-21)! Jesus is a name transliterated from the Hebrew name, Joshua, meaning “Jehovah is the Savior.”
At the time, the name Jesus was a common name among the Jews; a kind of testimony to their beliefs. But, the Name, Jesus, given to the Christ Child at His circumcision ceremony, was not just a testimony to the fact that His parents believed in Jehovah God; rather, it addressed the present reality. His Name was the Revealed Truth, that Jesus is the Messiah, the Savior of the world!
The meaning was actualized at the naming, because this Baby actually was the One True Savior that was prophesied of old. This Baby now bore the Holy Name given to the Child of Mary by the angels . . .
